James Millar's VW Polo

Last night, while hitting up the bowl at Belfast's new hippy spot, Bridges skate park we noticed this pretty awesome wee 1991, one litre Volkswagen Polo parked up outside. It wasn't long before we bumped into the owner James Millar rolling around on his BMX. After the park shut we managed to pull James away for a few minutes to snap some photos of his whip.

The most noticeable thing about this car is bound to be the paint job. Originally red, James de-badged, de-wipered and smoothed the boot over. He then set to work spraying the entire car in this sweet matt Squirrel Grey, which we think really sets the look apart. He's then went and removed his mud flaps and bump stops and fitted a straight through upswept exhaust, universal satin black rivet on the arches, stainless steel door handle inserts and a mk3 Golf splitter.

If that upswept exhaust hasn't made you fall in love, then the 13x8 Weller Steels with 165 stretched tyres will. This thing sits damn well. Did we mention how it was lowered? Well, if you're thinking air you'd be way off, if you're thinking coilovers you'd be the same as us, but nope this wee Polo is lowered 80mm on front and about 90mm on back with just shocks and springs. Nice!

Other touches include a sticker bombed fuel cap, removal of the arial and an internal one fitted, a roof rack for the BMX which has been sprayed satin black and red pin striping on the bumpers.

The awesomeness doesn't stop on the outside. Nope, inside James has covered his door cards in 1999 Beano comic strip, removed the rear seats and installed a false floor which hides his sub and amp underneath for some Bass. Then finally James has fitted a red leather roof liner and a leather steering wheel.

We love this thing, and once James has done a bit more work to it we'll do an update. Nice work.
