Limerick VW & Classic Car Show

Earlier this year, on May 29th, a few of us paid our first ever visit to the third annual Limerick VW & Classic Car Show organized by the Limerick Classic & Vintage Car Club.

This is a two-part show held in the grounds of the University of Limerick in an enormous car park. All tarmac, so no muddy feet, plenty of space and easily accessible from all major routes. One side of the show grounds played host to a large selection of classic and vintage automobiles of all eras including, among many others, Ford Escorts, Triumphs, Ferraris, Jaguars & Minis and even a few JDM cars. While it was the other half of the show that drew us, it was nice to wander through this section admiring some of the beautifully restored rally legends & super cars from previous decades.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the grounds, we found a mouth watering selection of air- & water-cooled Volkswagen Audi Group machinery. It was great to see some of these cars in the 'flesh' after having ogled photographs of many of them online. All corners of the VW scene were represented including rat-look, street sleeper, classic, euro and OEM+.

The stand-out and crowd drawing car of the show was without a doubt Trevor Brady's 1973 B1 Audi 80 on Fuchs wheels, recently featured in Golf+ magazine.

With good weather, burger vans, a DJ tent pumping out music, kids entertainment and plenty of like-minded enthusiasts & owners the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. Bring on 2012.
