Players Car Show, Essex

On the 18th of September, on a beautiful sunny day, Northweald Airfield in Essex was the venue for the 5th Players show, aka Players 5.0

We turned up mid morning round about 11 and the show grounds were well and truly full of both spectators and cars with more arriving by the minute.

Players, although predominantly a VW show, is somewhat different to most other shows of this sort in that it welcomes a wide variety of makes and models. In addition to an abundance of Volkswagen (air & water cooled), Audi, Seat & Skoda cars we spotted plenty of BMWs, Mercedes, Hondas and other Japanese makes, even an Aston Martin.

Two hangars housed the cream of the crop, while every free space between and around them was filled with everything that didn't fit inside as well as club stands, vendors displays.

The atmosphere was incredible, with a live DJ continuously pumping out the tunes and keeping the crowds entertained in addition to hosting the strong man contest.

Some of the standout cars of the show included the Type 2 Detective's air cooled Mk3 Golf.

The 'Royal Air Mail' Caddy on air and super popular Rotiform rims.

And Jay's 'more door' Mk2 Golf on custom Rotiform built zero-lip BBS wheels. These very different rims are causing quite a stir and not a little controversy in the VW scene this year.

All in all, this was one of the best shows I've been to in a long time. Congratulations to the organisers, and bring on Players 6.0.
